Omi tunnel on Hokuriku-shinkansen is located on westside area of the Itoigawa-Shizuoka tectonic line, which is one of the major geological tectonic lines in Japan, with complicated geological formation structure and distribution.
The upper part of the Omi tunnel west portal is covered with overhanging cliff about 20 metershigh, and the slope above the cliff is spotted with many loose rocks and boulders. The lower portal is distributed with talus cone sedimentation and fallen rocks from the cliff.
We present the processes from our overall study, planning, selection and execution of adopted for the prevention measures of large-scale falling rocks, in consideration of topography, geology and safety during and after the construction.
