Abstract
Z-Pinch has the nature of contracting by itself to produce a hot dense state spontaneously with the help of surrounding magnetic energy. Although it has been the most promising candidate in the early nuclear fusion research, it was given up immediately because of its unstable nature. With the emergence of the gas-puff Z-pinch, it comes to have a new recognition of Z-pinch as an intense pulsed source of EUV light and soft X-ray, and research on Z-pinch as a driver for inertial confinement fusion is advanced now. Here introduced is Z-pinch as a self-contracting system.
