Description
This research focuses on the associative. concepts, derived from the existing concepts. Aiming at capturing the impressions of products, we built a framework of a method to capture the formed impression with associative concept networks. Then, we carried out a case study where nine hospital uniforms were selected as design products for examination. These uniforms were divided into groups of "seasonable," "conventional," and "strong color". The thirteen participants were given a set of questionnaires about impressions of each uniform, so we could investigate the structures of the participants' associative concepts. We conducted a centering resonance analysis in order to find associative relations between the collected words. The latent concepts were extracted as words from collected impressions. We examined them with a cross reference table between hospital uniforms and extracted words, where the value of "output degree centrality" of each word was calculated for each file. This value indicated the importance of the word in the associative concept network. There was a clear difference between the three groups, revealing that the visualized associative concept networks indicate the high central concepts for design. The proposed evaluation method makes available contribution to designed products.
