Description
This study had two objectives: one was to study mood changes in subjects while drawing face icons that consisted only of eyes and a mouth, and the other was to categorize the shape of these drawn eyes and mouth parts and to study the characteristics of the face icons in relation to the subjects' mood changes. The act of drawing smile icons was found to improve the subjects' mood. From the shapes of the drawn smile icons, the characteristics of a smile icon that can be expected to have positive psychological effects on the subjects were identified: most of the drawn eye parts consisted of an upwardly arch-shaped eye, and most of the drawn mouth parts were concave, with uplifted corners. On the other hand, the act of drawing angry icons was found to worsen the subjects' mood. The study also found that the facial expression on the smile icons tended to be expressed by the shape of the mouth parts, and the angry icons tended to be expressed by the shape of the eye parts.
