Abstract
The objective of this study is to clarify the effectiveness of the screen structure on GUI of the touch panel for mental models building. The current study focused on the following four types of the screen structure of GUI as an experimental factor: (1) hierarchized screen, (2) hierarchized screen with tabs, (3) listed all function in one screen, (4) sequential screen. The building level of mental models was measured in terms of functional model and structural model, the lostness score, and the subjective rating on satisfaction. Results shows the (3) and (4) screen structures were better for building structural model. Regarding the level of functional model, there was no clear difference among 4 types. Additionally, (3) and (4) had better evaluation regarding the lostness score and the subjective rating.
