Description

The authors have beening studying on anti-friction metals. In the present paper, a newly devised testing machine of the repeated impact with the sliding rubbing and some of the results of observations by this testing machine on the wearing phenomena e, g, worn amount, roughness and hardness of wearing surface, microstructure etc., about SUJ, 2 tempering specimen are described. The mechanism of the machine and test results about SUJ, 2 are as follows:
(1) The test specimen is given a repeated impact with sliding rubbing by repulsive force of spring through rotary cam. The impact energy and the rubbing force are easily determined on the basis of the static load of spring, lift and r. p. m of cam. One of the expreimental formula in relation to static load W (<120kg) and impact energy E (kg-cm) has been when given E=0.331W under the condition of camlift 1mm, 480 r. p. m.
(2) The wearing phenomena, the hardness and the microstructure depend remarkably repeated impact energy. The lower the repeated impact energy, the stronger the peening action than wear action. While, the higher the repeated impact energy, the stronger the wear action, and the variation of microstructure is nonremarkable. Also, it is presumed from the foregoing results that metamorphosed layer of surface and carbide layer have a remarkable influence on occurrence of wear.
