Abstract

Though the manufacture of ferromanganese was steadily progressing in our country, no systematic study has been published. The author tried to find some relations between compositions of the slag and the metal from thermo-chemical standpoint, and at the same time an exact method of charge calculation based on the thcory. A certain relation between power consumption and grade of charge was found to exist. By computing with the aid of graphical methed, the author obtained some fundamental values on which furnace design may be considered. Properties of ferro-silicomanganese and its preparation from ferro-manganese slag, and also manufacturing of low-carbon ferromanganese by silicothermic process were briefly discussed.
