Description

Okinawa International Center is the facilities for technical seminars specially built by Japan International Corporation Agency for students and attendants of developing countries. This building is located at Urazoe City, Okinawa. The construction of this building started in September, 1983 and completed in February, 1985. Due to the salt contained in concrete, stuck to reinforcing steel during the job and contaminated through the environment, construction steel materials tend to rust, causing early deterioration of reinforced concrete structures in Okinawa. High humidity and temperature also accelerate this deterioration. For this reason, considerations were given for the durability at the designing stage. Further more, concrete technical committee was established in order to obtain the very best durability which can be attainable with current technical level by using the best choice of materials, job method and environment. This paper outline this project.
