Increase in Distillate Productivity of Basin Type Solar Still by External Reflector

Abstract
A basin type solar still with internal and external reflectors was constructed and tested in outdoor experiments in Kurume, Japan. The external reflector was inclined slightly forward to make the reflected sunrays hit the basin liner effectively. The experimental results and the theoretical predictions for the distillate productivity of the still are in fairly good agreement. The maximum daily productivity of 4.01kgm-2day-1was obtained on a day of 14.6MJm-2day-1global solar radiation on a horizontal surfac, and this daily productivity would be about 1.7 times as much as one predicted for a conventional basin type still without reflectors.
