Abstract
Twenty eyes of ten patients with diabetic maculopathy(AI, AII, BI classified Fukuda's classification) were treated with diode laser (10 eyes) and krypton laser (10 eyes). The visual acuity, visual field (Octopus program 31) and fundus were examined at 2 weeks, one month, 3 months and 6 months after photocoagulation. In diode laser group, visual acuity was stable in 9 eyes and worsened in one eye. In krypton laser group 1 eye was improved in visual acuity, 6 eyes unchanged and 2 eyes worsened. As to the stage of retinopathy, 7 eyes improved in diode laser group and 8 eyes improved in krypton laser group. In the central visual field sensitivity, 2 eyes improved, 6 eyes unchanged and 2 eyes worsened in diode laser group. In krypton laser group 2 eyes improved, 5 eyes unchanged and 3 eyes worsened. In the central 30° visual sensitivity, 1 eye improved, 2 eyes unchanged and 7 eyes worsened in diode laser group. In krypton laser group 2 eyes improved, 5 eyes unchanged and 3 eyes worsened. The effectiveness of diode laser photocoagulation was similar to that of krypton laser photocoagulation in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, though we must take care of over coagulation in diode laser photocoagulation.
