Description
Many of polyols as main materials of polyurethane are poly(oxyalkylene) polyol manufactured mainly by ring opening polymerization of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide with polyhydric alcohol. Although it is manufactured by the anionic polymerization reaction even now using the base catalyst such as an alkaline metal etc., in the process of manufacture, propylene oxide is isomerized to the byproduct of the mono-alcohol (monol) which has only one hydroxyl group at the end of molecule. Polyurethane produced with poly (oxyalkylene) polyol prepared by the conventional base catalyst has non-ideal network structure containing dangling chains due to the reaction with monol. We have succeeded in industrial production of poly(oxyalkylene) polyol depressing the generation of monol by using new phosphazene catalyst. This paper describes the application to the polyurethane production from poly(oxyalkylene) polyol manufactured by the new phosphazene catalyst.
