Abstract
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma occurs in the cutis, subcutaneous and soft tissues all over the body. The incidence of this tumor in the head and neck area is approximately 3 to 10 per cent of all other regions. A tumor of the primary vocal cord is extremely rare. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a tumor of mesenchymal origin and composed of several types of cells including fibroblasts, histiocyte-like cells and atypical giant cells, etc. This report describes a patient (69-year-old man) with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the primary vocal cord. The tumor did not recur within a year of its resection via laryngeal microsurgery. The tumor was of the giant cell type histologically.
