Abstract

The purpose of this paper were developed the questionnaire measuring the quality of life of Japanese school aged children with asthma Version 1 (JSCA-QOL Ver. 1), and choosing the best items of JSCA-QOL Ver. 1. The sample for analysis was composed of one hundred forty two children aged from 10 to 18 with asthma. The questionnaire had 40 items with a five-point Likert Scale format over four domains:'physical','social','familial' and 'emotional'. In examining the reliability of the subscales, the results showed internal consistency except for the 'familial' domain. Test-retest reliability was almost satisfied for all domains. Factor analysis, excluding 15 questions that showed a low factor loading (less than 0.4), indicated a 5 factors grouping. Those five domains were 'change of daily living', 'factors of asthma attack','satisfaction of daily life','family support' and 'limitation on the activity'. Thus, it is needed that we will improve JSCA-QOL Ver. 1 furthermore.
