Abstract

The tiniting paint films generally show the different colors under the different chromaticity lamps. In thisstudy, the Authors tried to estimate quantitatively the image difference of tinting paint films under different chromaticity lamps, and to find out the factors which affect the phenomenon of it.
In order to examine the correlation between the visual estimation and the special color rendering index, three kinds of the tinting paint film series, which are white-red, white-green, and white-blue were prepared. The visual estimation was carried out by eight panels under the three different chromaticity lamps as the Samples and a super deluxe daylight fluorescent lamp as the reference.
Consequently, the correlation coefficient between the special rendering index and the visual estimation was -0.904, and the distribution was extremely significant at one per cent level. The conclusion was that it was possible to evaluate objectively the image difference with the special color rendering index.
For examining the factors which effect the image difference, the white, black, red, yellow, green, blue, and purple colored paint films which were made from nineteen kinds of pigments were prepared. Each paint film was examined under the ten different lamps as the sample and the specified achro-matic lights as the reference, and the special color rendering index of each film was calculated.
As the result, the saturation was the factor of the most effective on the image difference among three attributes.
