Abstract
A process for quantifying the effects of plated surfaces on human sensations was investigated, as it applied to bright nickel plating. Semantic differential process was used for the purpose. Nine kinds of plated specimens (concepts) were made in Watts baths containing saccharin sodium and coumarin. Those specimens were arranged on a board and served for the questionnaire which was constituted of four pairs of adjective antonyms. The eight examinees entered their responses by assigning values on eleven-point scales while looking at the board. These scores were analyzed by a factor analysis and a sensation index was defined, which enabled quantitative analysis of the tendency of human sensation for each concept.
