Abstract

The crystal structure of black iron oxide which was deposited on a thin filler substrate such as mica by homogeneous precipitation using an aqeous solution dissolved urea, an oxidizing agent, and ferrous salts was investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy and SEM. As a result, it was confirmed that the particle shape, the crystal structure, and the color differed with the thin filler substrate used.
Black-iron-oxide-coated mica having interference color was prepared by the coating of the fine particle of black iron oxide formed from homogeneous precipitation using an aqueous solution dissolved urea, ferric salts, and ferrous salts on a thin filler substrate.
From the relationship between the color and the crystal structure, it was confirmed that the interference color differed with the formation ratio of Fe2O3 to γ-Fe2O3 in the black iron oxide on thin-filler substrate.
From the investigation of the magnetic characteristics, it was confirmed that the black-ironoxide-coated mica can be applied as a magnetic color material.
