Abstract

All eleven NEC corporate libraries are managed by a single system that centralizes information and simplifies the interlibrary loan process. A new system, named"Booknavi", has been developed that takes advantage of the expanding Internet. It offers improved service and increases book lending activity. Using this system, users can obtain information on books in all company libraries. This information includes book location and availability. The system also allows users to reserve books using their own terminals. Over the last six months, since its launch in August 1999, has greatly improved book circulation. In this paper, the authors describe the"Booknavi" service and report on its effectiveness.
