Abstract

Pictographs in Japanese mobile phones always cause trouble on the Internet community. When they use pictographs on the bulletin-boards or the comments of blogs, they only can see the pictographs there while others are irritated with the mess of characters on the pages. Why such things happen? Since the three major companies of mobile phones in Japan, DoCoMo, au, and SoftBank, use their own original character codes that are not adaptive with JIS or ISO. Microsoft also uses their own character code, CP932, which is far from these three.
