Abstract

This is a lecture paper presented for the 45th anniversary of the founding of USACO Corp.. The lecturer talked over the current state of ordering management of periodicals from the various points based on the practices of subscription service he has long experienced, and particularly discussed the current situation in the U.S. and the way of dealing with it. The paper describes the relations among the three parties of libraries, agents and publishers, estimates the libraries market size for FY 1995 in the U.S. and Europe, and shows what the customers are and the commission fees the agents are to take. Also it describes relation between libraries and publishers in the U.S., kinds of publishers and the relation with the market. Moreover, it discusses what are happening in the U.S. university libraries, particularly in academic and medical libraries, and mentions the problems of new media which is a driving force for such happenings.
