Description

This paper describes the importance of multi-media database at library and museum to provide basic information for humanity studies. As an example, a large scale multi-media database at National Museum of Ethnology is explained which holds now about 1.6 million their own data including artifact image and slide image. In the paper are listed about 50 research themes which were presented at work shop of "computer and humanity." The author points out the necessity of developing the high speed hardware for image processing or pattern matching, and using new hardware he proposes to develop "Holotheque" which is a kind of workstation useful for humanity studies.
