In order to paint the image of superintendent (S.I.) necessary for keeping the know-how of ship management industry, analysis has been done on the competence of S.I. By making clear the gap between the expectation to S.I. And the state, as well as the weight of those types of competences from the viewpoint of ship management companies. Lastly, proposal was given to the field of maritime education that the competence should be improved according to the result of the gap analysis.
