Abstract

A multi-clinical, double blind controlled study was carried out to evaluate objectively the efficacy of pipemidic acid (PPA) on chronic suppurative otitis media using aminobenzyl penicillin (ABPC) as the standard drug. The following conculusions were obtained.<BR>1) In the cases of single infections due to GNB, PPA was significantly superior to ABPC in regards of overall clinical efficacy judged by the doctor and committee, and utility judged by the doctor.<BR>2) Moreover, in the same cases as described above, PPA was significantly superior to ABPC in point of elimination of GNB isolated from otorrhea and disappearance of otorrhea.<BR>3) PPA tended to be more effective than ABPC in regards of infections due to Pseudomonas, although there was no significant difference between both the groups.<BR>4) Frequency of side effects was no significant difference between both the groups. But, frequency of allergic symptoms such as eruption in ABPC group was significantly higher that that of PPA.
