Description

A dilatation of the parotid duct (Stenon's duct) is found in the sialodochitis or sialolithiasis. We herein report the case of a localized extreme dilatation of Stenon's duct. A 45-year-old woman presented with a chief complaint of swelling in her right cheek after eating, which then disappeared at rest. The duct orifice was very small, so it was difficult to perform sialography. The sialogram, however, revealed an extreme dialatation of Stenon's duct. No caliculi were observed. The stenosis of the duct orifice was considered to be one of the main causes of the symptoms, and we therefore enlarged the duct orifice orally. After the operation, the swelling in the cheek after eating no longer occurred. We thus called this case a cyst of Stenon's duct because it was similar to a cyst of the common bile duct.
