Description

Under the rapid globalization as well as environmental transformation in business activities, capability of smoothly providing accurate information has become essential. In view of this demand, Japan Patent Information Organization (Japio) has advanced the researches and promotion of "Technical Japanese", a language for Japanese technical writing, in close cooperation with a number of related organizations and experts in this technical domain. The concept of "Technical Japanese" is defined as "the Japanese language for technical writing which achieves fine human comprehensibility and fine computer processability for linguistic processing including machine translation at the same time". In this article, Japio's efforts for the "Technical Japanese" project are described, focusing mainly on the "Patent Documents Writing Manual", which is expected to be the guidebook for writing patent documents in "Technical Japanese", as well as a basic specification for assistance functions of computer applications for the patent writings.
