Abstract

We evaluated aortic calcification with urolithiasis in patients under forty years old. Between January 2011 and October 2011, we reviewed 21 patients retrospectively who had undergone computerized tomography for the diagnosis of urolithiasis. We investigated the age, gender, BMI, X-ray permeability, aortic calcification, urinary pH, and complications. <br>  The mean age was 34 years old, and there were 19 male and 2 female cases. The mean BMI was 29.4. Aortic calcification was found in 4 cases(19%)and was absent in 17 cases(81%). The mean urinary pH was 6.1. In 14 cases, complications were recognized. The aortic calcification rate was 19%. About 50% of patients showing urolithiasis under forty years old and complicated by hyperuricemia showed a tendency toward obesity. However, hyperlipidemia was rare. It was reported that an excessive intake of animal protein, cholesterol, and fat causes urolithiasis and arteriosclerosis. Therefore, we have to improve dietary and lifestyle habits in the future.
