Abstract

This paper clarifies the role of researchers on organization studies and the field of practical narrative approaches. It reflects on the organizational practice of supporting students with disabilities at the University of Toyama, by describing an emergent and cyclic process that consists of the following four steps: 1) extracting narratives from stakeholders, 2) co-constructing narratives through collaboration among stakeholders, 3) creating changes to better clarify the reality, and 4) narrating experiences in creating changes within and outside of organizations. This process reveals three roles of organizational studies researchers, as follows: 1) devising a method for extracting diverse narratives, 2) witnessing the practice of a narrative approach, and 3) administrating the organizational practice of a narrative approach.
