Description
Objective:To evaluate the effect of prior abdominal surgery on patients who underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy(LRC).
Methods:We retrospectively reviewed the charts of 45 patients who had undergone LRC for bladder cancer between 2009 and 2013. Separation of adhesion was performed laparoscopically. Demographic and perioperative data were analyzed to assess the impact of prior lower abdominal surgery on the operative outcomes and complications.
Results:Of the 45 patients, 10(22%)had a history of previous lower abdominal operations. Treatment for ileus was required for 50% patients with and 11.4% patients without prior surgery(p=0.0250). There were no differences in the blood loss, transfusion rate, operative time, or length of hospital stay between the two groups.
Conclusion:Although it is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative ileus, laparoscopic radical cystectomy is feasible in patients with prior abdominal surgery.
