<p>The most commonly used form of corneal topography is Placido-based corneal topography. This method of imaging of the anterior corneal surface makes use of analysis of reflected images of multiple concentric rings projected on the cornea. Principles, characteristics and future prospects of Placido-based corneal topography are described.</p>
