Abstract

The Company introduced JOIS on-line retrieval service in October 1977 over private circuit with a fixed CRT display and printer, and in January 1979 over public telephone circuit with portable printer terminals. This report explains how an in-house technical information system changed by the introduction of JOIS. And our experiences and efforts of making use of the JOIS to get fittest answers to requesters is reported. As to the future of the JOIS system, user's expectations are expressed in terms of database, terminal operation, the relation between JICST SDI service and its JOIS on-line retrieval at terminals.
