Description
It have been demonstrated that the facile silylation of fullerenes can be achieved with disiliranes, silylenes, and silyl radicals by photoreaction as reactive silicon species, which lower the oxidation potentials of fullerene derivatives due to the electron-donating property of organosilicon groups. On the other hand, it is well known that transition-metal complexes activate Si-Si bonds to react with unsaturated compounds. These fascinating results prompted us to investigate the validity of transition-metal complexes in silylation of fullerenes. Herein we report a novel silylation reaction of fullrenes catalyzed by transition-metal complexes. Thermal reactions of C60 and disiliranes in the presence of transition-metal complexes afforded 1:1 adducts of C60 and disiliranes.
