Description

Photoreduction mechanism of nitrobenzene derivatives is investigated by using [Ru(bpy)3]2+-EDTA photoinduced electron transfer system and MV2+ as an electron mediator. Characterization of photoreduction products were carried out by the aid of 19F-NMRspectroscopy and p-F-PhNO2 as a substrate. Photoreduction of p-F-PhNO2 proceeded through three intermediate products (1-3) to result p-F-PhNH2 and at 200min irradiation, unidentified product 4 as final products in 57% and 17%, respectively. The photoreduction first afforded 1 with maximum yield of 52% after 80 min irradiation and decayed by further irradiation. The formation of intermediate product 2 was observed with the accumulation of 1 and gave a maximum rate at the maximum concentration of 1. 2 exhibited a maximum yield of 50% after 200 min irradiation and decrease thereafter, followed by the appearance of 2. Thus, the photoreduction is supposed to undergo successive reduction of p-F-PhNO2 -> 1 -> 2 -> p-F-PhNH2.
