Abstract
Trimethoxyphenyl nitronyl nitroxide(1) and its transition metal complexes were prepared and their magnetic properties were studied. Single X-ray crystallographic analysis of complexes between 1 and M(hfac)2(M=Mn(II), Co(II), Cu(II) and hfac=hexafluoroacetylacetonato) revealed that they were isostructual and contained 12M(hfac)2 mononuclear metal-radical complex and M(hfac)22H2O at a ratio of 1:1. Depending on the exchange interactions, between M and ligated nitroxide and M-M interactions, the complexes [12M (hfac)2][M (hfac)22H2O] showed various magnetic behaviors. Although all complexes remained paramagnetic down to 1.8 K the temperature dependence of &chimolT of each complexes showed ferri(1-Mn(II)),antiferro(1-Co(II)), and ferromagnetic(1-Cu(II)) behaviors.
