Our research group has clarified that electropolymerization of 1,3-bis(bithienyl)benzene derivatives affords good conductive polymers. In this context, we have studied the synthesis and photochemical properties of poly[1,3-bis(bithienyl)benzene] having porphyrin-side chain. As a target monomer, 1,3-bis(bithienyl)benzene having ethynyldiphenylporphyrin substituent was synthesized. The spectroelectrochemistry suggests that the electrochemical oxidation of the monomer affords the radical cation of the porphyrin-moiety. The electropolymerization of the monomer afforded a conductive polymer on the ITO-coated glass. The current density-voltage curves of the target polymer showed a good optically response. The photoconductivity and photovoltaic current were observed.
