Abstract
Radical-substituted radical cations are attractive compounds as spin building blocks of molecule-based magnets. We now report syntheses and magnetic behaviors of NN-TOT•+MX4- (M = Fe, Ga; X = Cl, Br). NN-TOT•+MX4- was synthesized by chemical oxidation of neutral NN-TOT. NN-TOT•+FeCl4- showed a magnetic phase transition at 3 K with a magnetic hysteresis, whereas NN-TOT•+FeBr4- showed a magnetic phase transition at 4 K without a magnetic hysteresis. These results suggest that NN-TOT•+FeCl4- and NN-TOT•+FeBr4- are transformed into a ferrimagnet and a meta magnet, respectively. Detailed studies for all compounds will be discussed.
