抄録
According to the linear potential theory, waves incident to a very large pontoon-type floating structure decay exponentially quite fast under the structure and can not proceed deep into the structure, while, along the fringes of the structure, it is predicted that waves also decay but algebraically. In reality, however, waves may decay faster due to such effects as wave breaking, vortex shedding and so on, which are not accounted for in the linear theory. Experiments are conducted and compared with the linear theory predictions in order to examine this speculation.
