Abstract

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a useful method to measure ship position and velocity. Although results measured with GPS includes many kinds of errors such as satellite clock error, position error of a satellite, ionospheric delay and so on, these errors can be canceled by using DGPS (Differential GPS) system. We carried out field experiments using GPS, DGPS and bottom tracking of ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) for measuring the ship velocity in last summer. From these results, effectiveness of DGPS using analysis of carrier phase was confirmed. We discus here the accuracy of ship velocity measurements by comparing these results.
