Abstract

Generally, a mono hull type high-speed craft has some advantages such as simple structure and availability for using existing port facilities, then mono hull type is used mainly in high-speed crafts. However, it has been known that a mono hull type craft occasionally lose the transverse stability with increasing her ahead speed, even though she possesses adequate stability at rest condition. There are some studies concern with instability phenomenon based on experimental method. Accordingly, they show the effect of the <GM>^^^- and speed. However, the effect of hull form is also pointed out by Werenskiold. In this paper, in order to make the effect of hull form clear for this phenomenon, we carried out the numerical calculations on the transverse instability for dynamic pressures and heeling moment acting on a high speed craft, by changing the aft hull warp and water plane area. This paper deals with a phenomenon on the assumption that the craft has constant speed, heave, trim and heeling angle, and attempts to know the mechanism of the transverse instability.
