On Turning Energy and Centrifugal Force of the Ship

Abstract

The coefficient of keinetic energy of ship turning is taken 1/2 in the equaticn KE=cω^2I_O. However, I have met several cases in which the correctness of the coefficient is doubted in my 30 years study of the subject of the ship turning, and studied of this point theoretically and with actual ships and their models. Finally it is concluded that the coefficient should be 0.6. Here the angular velocity is within the turning resistance varies the square of the angular velocity, which is the case of actual ship turning. When the turning motion of the ship investigated at present only the force from the rudder is considered beecause of the centrifugal force supposedly a small amount. However the auther believes that the centrifugal force of the ship should be considered in.
