Abstract

The transitional flow fields by the forced motions of flap type and/or piston type wave maker were investigated for the case of finite depth and/or infinite depth. The time-dependent Green function for the case of finite depth was derived and the velocity potential in the fluid domain was represented by distribution of that Green function on the wetted surface of flap and/or piston. The property of the response functions η_I(χ,τ) that represent the water surface elevation due to the impulsive motion of wave maker are investigated. They are derivations of Cauchy-Poisson problem.
