Description
The objective of this study is to examine the spatial structure of rural communities (Shuraku). The sample of this study consists of 175 rural communities throughout the country. They are classified into several groups according to the settlement patterns and the regions. The size and spatial relationships of rural communities are analyzed with regard to the total land area, farmland, residential area, and roads. Basic figures on the spatial structure are provided which can be utilized in planning the physical improvement of such communities.
