Description
Automatic transmissions are divided into Step type AT (AT) and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Lubricants used for AT and CVT are defined as ATF and CVTF. For the improvement of fuel efficient by lubricants, lower viscosity type ATF is useful because of reducing agitation loss in transmissions. It is also important to keep fatigue life performance in gear and bearing components in spite of the use of lower viscosity ATF. A sort of viscosity index improver (VII) would improve film thickness under the EHD lubrication condition. The performance requirement of CVT is to improve the metal-metal friction coefficient between the belt and pulley in the CVT and be compatible for wet clutch system. Lubricant additive formulation would give a great impact for these performances and the friction properties may depend on the properties of tribofilm (morphology and compositions).
