Abstract
Recently, slab or ballastless tracks were proposed to reduce maintenance frequency, and these tracks contribute to work-load/environmental-load reduction. However, ballasted tracks are also still in wide use because of their noise/vibration reduction capability and their repairability of track irregularity. Therefore, it is important to reduce ballast degradation. We set up a three-dimensional Finite Element Method model for prestressed concrete sleepers, expressing influence of ballast with rigid spring, to reproduce their vibration and dynamic characteristics. Further, we compared the difference of these characteristics between normal sleepers and those with some structural modifications.
