Description
In this study, we simulate the formation of granular slopes for polygons flowing from a hopper. We measure the dependence of the angle of repose of the granular slopes on the particle shape and interparticle friction.For simplicity, we inscribe the polygons into ellipses of varying elongation and corner number. It is found that the angle of repose increases with the elongation of the particles, and decreases with increasing number of corners of the particles for the same friction coefficient, which shows the importance the shape plays for particle simulations due to the mobilization of rotational degrees of freedom.
