Description

Three tornados made lots of damage for wide area belong to North Kanto Region on May 6, 2012. Authors focused a case that asphalt of road was removed by the tornado at Mashiko town in Tochigi prefecture. In this case, the asphalt which was 50mm thin, 27m long and 4m wide was removed by wind. The damage like this is very rare as the example of tornado-induced damages. Therefore, the wind speed, when the asphalt removed, was estimated assuming some situation, such as pressure decrement of tornado center, distribution of pressure in tornado model, and pressure distributions on surface on the local terrain without or with a guard rail. As the result of this estimation, the wind speed might be from 40m/s to 60m/s approximately.
