Abstract
Hamiltonian systems with many degrees of freedom go towards thermal equilibrium after long time relaxation. In systems with long-range interactions a state is trapped at a so-called quasi-stationary state before going to the thermal equilibrium. In this presentation we consider the Hamiltonian mean-field (HMF) model which has typical long-range interactions. In the HMF model, periodically traveling small clusters are observed on homogeneous background. The traveling small clusters can be explained by the dispersion relation of a kinetic equation for the distribution function. However, big clusters which are not treated by perturbation theory are also observed for a class of initial distributions. We will discuss a theory to understand the mechanics of the big clusters.
