Description

As a gable roof is one of popular and simple roof configurations, many codes and standards specify the pressure and force coefficients for the wind-resistant design. Generally, force coefficients for main wind resisting systems have been described for two wind directions along the structural axes. The value of force coefficient described in codes and standards should be a typical value among various values for various wind directions. For gable roofs, force coefficients often have critical values for oblique incidents at which high negative pressures distribute on whole leeward roof surface due to the separated flow from the verge and the ridge of the roof. Characteristics of pressure coefficients for the roof structure of gable roofs are investigated with regard to effects of lateral wind incidents, roof slopes, and model depth/height ratios.
