Abstract
This report is based on the researches for about 80 form hausses in Saga prefecture which were built in Edo period. These form hauses are well known from the roof forms curving "〓" style. But there are many other styles as follows. These roof forms are able to be divided into four basic types. I) Sugoya; rectilinear ridge of roof (among the mountains) II) Tsunoya; "〓" and "〓" types (at the foot of mountains) III) Magariya; "〓" type (in the plain) IV) "□" type (at the reclamated field) There are only two types of plans in spite of these various types of roofs. (1) Hiroma type (three rooms types) (2) Longtudinally partitioned rooms type The connection of these plans and roofs are not simple, I) type roofs have always (1) type plan and IV) type roofs have always (2) type plan, but III) type roofs have (1) or (2) types plans. The oldest farm hauses in Saga prefecture have (1) type plan, which exist over the whole country. These hauses were built at early Edo period, but the (2) type plan at middle period.
