Description

Dust deposition in lap joints of roof shingles which is often found at maintenance works of roofs may have unfavorable effects on waterproofing performance of such roofs. But the process of dust deposition as well as the manner of water penetration into the lap joints that cause the movement of the dust are not well known so far. In this experimental study, water penetration depth and distribution of dusts that have entered together with water in the lap joint of roof shingles were measured using roof model that consists of two sheet glass, with various test conditions of gap width, kinds of artificial dusts, roof pitch and rainfall intensities.
