Description
Once a plant is infected by one virus, the plant would show some resistance against second challenge by the closely-related virus. We are now investigating the interference using Arabidopsis-TMV Cg system. We have succeeded in construction of an attenuated strain of Cg, called YD. The YD could infect and spread the Arabidopsis but accumulated at a lesser level without any symptoms. Some mutants, which are known to be defective in PTGS, could still show the interference triggered by YD preinfection. Thus, the differences between the interference and the PTGS are suggested at the molecular level. We also investigated the accumulation before and after Cg infection in Arabidopsis. The accumulation levels of many miRNA increased after Cg infection but did not after YD infection, suggesting that the change of miRNA level is linked to the pathogenesis in part.
