Abstract

The service life of polymeric building materials are affected by the synergistic degradation caused by solar ultraviolet radiation and heat. Carbonyl index of polyethylene (CIPE) film specified by JIS K 7200-1986 is determined as the ratio of infrared absorbance of carbonyi group to the reference absorbance of etylene. CIPE is an index of degradation circumstances. These PE films were exposed and exchanged every month at Asahikawa, Choshi and Nishihara. The obtained CIPE can be expressed as a function of solar radiation and temperature in daytime. Estimated CIPE are accumulated for 15 years and plotted on map.
